Size charts & size guides

Looking for sizing advice? Then you’re in the right place!

Use the uvex size charts to help you buy PPE that keeps you safer: if protective clothing doesn’t fit properly, it will be less comfortable, and – more importantly – its protective function will be impaired. However, it’s not always immediately clear which size is needed – variable cuts and different international sizing systems can quickly lead to confusion.

To save you from ill-fitting PPE and to help you find the right size, we’ve put together some simple size charts for our men’s and women’s protective clothing, safety shoes, safety gloves and safety helmets here. We also give you practical tips on how to take important measurements such as hip or hand circumference correctly.

Contents

What you need to do

The sizes within our uvex product categories are standardised. This means, for example, that all men’s trousers are made using the same measurements. Therefore, to ensure that a particular category of uvex protective products will fit correctly, all you need to do is to take accurate measurements once. When taking the relevant body measurements, please make sure that you

  • take the measurements in the right place: our diagrams will help you do this.
  • use a standardised, metric measuring tape: for a reliable result, please do not convert inches or similar.
  • select the right chart: our trousers and shoes are available in different lengths (for proportionally shorter, regular and longer legs) and widths (for narrow to very wide feet).
  • if you are in between sizes, always choose the larger measurement: slightly loose is better than too tight.

If you don’t have a measuring tape to hand, you can also use a piece of string, which you then measure with a ruler or folding rule. If you have any questions about our sizes and taking measurements correctly, our uvex size advisors are here to help.

Protective clothing and workwear

Trousers, jackets and overalls for men and women – uvex workwear offers a large selection of appropriate protective clothing for the working day in a wide range of sizes. Use our measurement tutorials and size charts to find personal protective equipment in your size.

Men Women

Regular, short or long – which is the right size for me?

Your body height and measurements determine your size category and associated order size. Measure your height from your crown to the soles of your feet (without shoes).

Women

  • 157 to 164 cm: short sizes
  • 165 to 172 cm: regular sizes
  • from 173 cm: long sizes

Men

  • 168 to 179 cm: short sizes
  • 176 to 191 cm: regular sizes
  • 184 to 195 cm: long sizes

How to find your clothing size / order size: measuring close to the body, ideally while wearing close-fitting clothing (underwear), measure the hip circumference and inner leg length (for trousers) or the hip circumference, waist circumference and outer sleeve length (for jackets, tops and shirts) and compare the measurements with the measurements in the relevant table below.

If the measurements show that you are between sizes, please select the larger size.

Men’s trousers

uvex trousers for men feature premium materials and precise workmanship. Of course, as items of protective clothing, they must fit perfectly in order to be able to provide the maximum protective effect. The ratio of hip circumference to leg length is individual and requires specially adapted sizes. That’s why our PPE trousers for men are available in regular, short and long sizes. To find the right size, please take the following measurements:

A. Hip circumference:
Widest horizontal circumference of the largest part of the hips/buttocks

B. Inside leg length:
Vertical distance along the inside leg from the crotch to the sole of the foot, standing with legs hip-width apart

Don’t have a measuring tape to hand? You can also use a piece of string, which you then measure with a ruler or folding rule.

Unisex sizing – men and women

Ensuring a good fit is extremely important to us, which is why in our unisex products we have used small size increments and offer a wide range of sizes. This allows wearers to decide for themselves whether they would prefer their clothes to be slim- or loose-fitting. For example, someone who is a men’s clothing size 48 will fit both size S (slimmer-fitting cut) and size M (looser-fitting cut).

Use your clothing size and our unisex size chart to find the size you need for your unisex protective clothing.

To ensure a perfect fit and to guarantee maximum safety when working with hazardous substances, uvex overalls are available in a wide range of sizes.

Important note: Our overalls sizes are based on the specific values of height and chest circumference. Please therefore select your uvex overalls according to your actual body measurements and not your clothing size!

Find the right shoe size

A safety shoe should both protect and be comfortable at all times – including when the feet are subjected to high levels of stress on a daily basis. To find your uvex shoe size, you need to determine the length and width of your feet.

How to determine your foot length: with the uvex fit advisor app

It's common knowledge that people take a different shoe size in different brands. The matching shoe can vary even by several sizes. Since wearing the right size is crucial when it comes to how well safety shoes protect your feet, we recommend that you use the uvex fit advisor app to determine your personal uvex shoe size.

To measure your foot length the conventional way

With the help of our uvex fit advisor app, you can easily determine your shoe size, which is why we highly recommend this app.

However, if you are interested in measuring your foot size conventionally, here are a few tips for you:

You should measure your foot length towards the end of the working day, as your feet may change and increase in size during the day. Compare both feet and determine one may be slightly longer. Use the longer foot to measure the exact distance from the heel to the longest toe in millimetres. This gives you your foot length and you can read your appropriate uvex shoe size in the table below.

uvex multiple fit system

In addition to foot length, the width of the foot is an important factor for a well-fitting shoe. Thanks to our uvex multiple fit system, we are able to offer our shoe models not only in different sizes but also in different widths. To determine the required widths, please measure the circumference of your foot between the base joint of the big toe and the base joint of the little toe (see diagram).

You can find your uvex shoe size and width category in the following tables (all measurements in mm):

Find the right size work gloves

The most important measurements for the right size work gloves are hand circumference and hand length.

Measuring hand circumference: place the measuring tape around your hand so that it loosely encloses the palm of your hand (see diagram).

Measuring hand length: place your hand on the table, with fingers together and stretched out straight, and measure the length from the tip of the middle finger to the heel of the hand directly above the wrist.

Find the right safety helmet size

A safety helmet should be neither too tight nor too loose on your head. Find the right safety helmet size by measuring your head circumference.

Measuring head circumference: place the measuring tape around your head, slightly above your ears and across the centre of your forehead (around 2.5 cm above the eyebrows). Make sure that the measuring tape is horizontal and not too tight against your head.

Don’t have a measuring tape to hand? You can simply use a piece of string, which you then measure with a rule or folding ruler.

You can then use your head circumference to find the right safety helmet size for you. The individual sizes of our uvex safety helmets offer several centimetres of wiggle room, so you can adjust the helmet exactly to your head circumference using an adjuster.
